In honor of Heritage Month

It's Celtic Heritage Month, or if you prefer, Irish American Heritage Month and of course, being part Irish, I have some things to say about it.

At one time, there were Irish landowners in Ireland, until genocide of the Irish ravaged the Emerald Isle.

Mass confiscation of all Catholic owned land by the Cromwellian regime during the horrific ethnic cleansing at a time when it wasn't considered a crime to kill anyone Irish, contributing to the destruction of this class of people.  At best, they were considered prisoners of war.  If not slaughtered, many were sold into slavery or indentured, and were deported to the Caribbean Islands or The Colonies.  Not very many were actual refugees.  Few people today know that between 1600 and 1699, far more Irish were sold as slaves than were Africans, although both races suffered abuse from the British landowners in the West Indies.

There were pockets of Irish settlements scattered among the islands of the more powerful countries of the Netherlands, England, France, and Spain.  Some settlements were on St. David’s Island, Antigua, Jamaica, and Montserrat, which was called the Other Emerald Isle.  This is some little known history of the Irish.

I've researched this and believe it would make an excellent piece of historical based fiction, if for no other reason than to put information out there for people to see that it's nothing more than common sense to recognize throughout history, there have been many kinds of peoples subjugated.

Listed below are some potential things of interest for your consideration.

Celtic Guide is always outstanding in content, and is a monthly online and print publication, the online version being free.

These are books.

Suddenly, While Abroad:  Hitler's Irish Slaves

To Hell or Barbados:  The Ethnic Cleansing of Ireland by Sean O'Callaghan

White Cargo, by Don Jordan and Michael Walsh

Just wanted to toss the above out for perusal.

Thank you. I apologize for the lack of a reply to the comment/s you have left, however every time I attempt to reply to a comment someone has left, blogger eats my reply. This is something I have yet to figure out how to fix. Thank you for your time.
